Don't worry, that subject line probably isn't what you're thinking.

I'm referring to the biggest word going around in government-land...

Furlough.

For those who haven't heard of this, parts of the federal government have run into enough money troubles that they can't afford to pay their civilian employees for the entire rest of the fiscal year (until 30 September).  In order to make ends meet, we are kinda being "laid off" one day a week for 11 weeks.  So we're working 4 day weeks and only getting 80% of our normal paycheck for almost 3 months.

Today is my fourth furlough day.  Can I be honest for a minute?  I love it.  I am getting a 3-day weekend every week!  But I've found that I have to reign in my excitement when discussing furlough with my co-workers.  No one that I've talked to so far likes it quite as much as I do :)

Honestly, it's reminding me every day how glad I am that I'm not living paycheck to paycheck. Many of my coworkers are experiencing serious financial problems because they cannot live off of 80% of their normal pay.

This Furlough Friday situation is also really making me realize that I'd love to not have to work 40 hour weeks.  These 32 hour weeks are AMAZING!  Today has been the first Friday that we haven't been traveling, and I've taken full advantage of my lazy time around the house.  I have...

...laid on the couch and watched more episodes than I care to admit of The Hills...

...cleaned out my purse.  Yes, that is 3 dirty eating utensils you see...

... and organized some closets.  I discovered that an empty oatmeal box is the perfect container for wrapping paper!

Also I went to pick up my car.  I finally took it in to have the air conditioner drain hose fixed... $311 later, it's fixed!  Ugh, silly cars and their expensive problems...

Would you take a 20% pay cut to have an extra day off each week?
